ADULTS YOGA

Beginners-Intermediate

Donation:$15

**With the frame of Iyengar yoga we will be
applying the Body-Mind Centering principles
to the postures; developmental origins, systems
support: ie: organ, endocrine, reflexes, ligament,
bone etc.

You will be met where you are and supported with props,
detailed instructions and compassion, in the aim to
open your mind, enliven your body and inspire the spirit.

Please note: if you have any serious injuries or issues you are dealing with, I suggest some private attention before taking the class. This is so I can get a clear understanding of what it is you will need when you enter the larger context of the class. Your individual needs will still be met, but private attention previous to class would give you and me a jump on how you need to be supported. Of course, if that's not possible for you and you still want to come to class, come, and be prepared to go slowly.

PILATES MAT CLASS

SATURDAY 11:30am-12:30 September 19 into winter.

Donation:$15

Using the exercises of Joseph Pilates, (some Yoga and ballwork), I will focus on strengthening the psoas(deep abs) as well as the four layers of 'superficial' abdominal muscles, interweaving arm and leg strength and integration of axis and periphery.

It will be fun and informative, leaving you more centered and sure of your feet upon the earth, your back supported by your abdominals and your mind satisfied you have distracted it for an hour with many benefits!

"An asana is not a posture that can ever be assumed mechanically. It involves thought and therefore innovation and improvisation, at the end of which a balance is achieved between movement and resistence."..."Perform asanas each time with a fresh mind and with a fresh approach. If you are repeating what you did before, you are living in the memory, so you are living in the past."..."Usually when a person has mastered an asana, it becomes uninteresting. That is why you can see many people mechanically doing the same thing over and over again, but their minds are elsewhere. Blind spots develop, and you cannot savor the asana."..."You must always see if you can cross the line of past experiences."

OPENING OF THE LISTENING BODY STUDIO, WEST HURLEY, NY

YOGA & BODY-MIND CENTERING

Classes and Private sessions

Overview:
With the ground of Iyengar Yoga, and the application of the principles of Body-Mind Centering, the focus is on opening your body with the mind of the muscles, bones, organs, fluid, nervous and endocrine systems, etc in the asana. Pose and repose. Some asanas will be sustained, others, we will move through with the breath.

All levels are welcome. Focus will be on deepening the ground of the posture, and developmental essence; meaning, yielding into the earth to rise to standing.

In other words, and most importantly, your particular issues to open your body/mind will be addressed with compassion and listening. Compassion is key and patience with where you are comes with the practice. All props are provided. A wall of Iyengar ropes is for our stretching and embodiment's pleasure.

(More classes to be added and your best times are appreciated and welcomed.)

EXPERIENTIAL/EMBODIED ANATOMY & ART - movement, drawing, writing.

Do you know where you are?

This class is a laboratory to explore where you find yourself, how you find yourself through embodying your bones, tissue, fluids, organs, etc.

I was in a class at the School for Body-Mind Centering and had an epiphany of why I was there: 'to know where I am'. With that realization, my spirit was flying, there was something about this act of embodiment, by taking my mind to various parts of my anatomy and enlivening them with my conscious presence and their feedback to my whole self that gave me a more full sensation of myself in space and time.

Lately, I have been finding my writing in the midst of my moving, whether its yoga, authentic movement or exploring some part of anatomy. I would like to focus on seeing what the organs, bones, endocrines, have to say, in words. What do the lungs say? What rhythms come from the fluids?

I would like to in this class begin with some system or developmental pattern and locate it and then each person to go into their sensation of it in them, to embody it and explore what that means to them and what expression comes from that, if it's pictures instead of words, fine, if it's movement instead of words, fine.

Move from your inner world to bring it out to the larger world.

Embodying your anatomy as a spring-board to inspiration.

FIND THE ART IN YOURSELF.

I will begin with the bones, their layers, contours & connections. and expressing through writing, drawing(clay available) and movement.
